Back At The Carnival
For more than a decade, I've been immersed in the world of carnivals and fairs. Armed with my trusty medium format film camera (a Bronica SQ mind you), I venture out to the counties surrounding Orlando to explore these annual events that pass through town. They never fail to ignite my creative spirit, with their vibrant colors, laughter, and undeniable sense of magic and weirdness. Amidst the bustling excitement, I find myself capturing fleeting moments that tell stories of everyday people and weathered carnival workers.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work is the ability to connect with strangers and make them feel at ease in front of the camera. By engaging in light-hearted conversations and attentive listening, a genuine rapport is built, fostering trust. As shyness melts away, the true personalities of the people in front of the camera shine through. It's incredible to witness the transformation as they willingly become part of the story.
As an Orlando professional photographer, personal photography projects hold immense significance for me. While commercial, brand, and lifestyle photography is great, personal projects provide an invaluable opportunity for self-expression and exploration, allowing me to cultivate a unique perspective. These projects aren’t bound by client briefs, enabling me to work out my creative muscles and refine my skills. Engaging in them enriches my commercial work and makes me more curious about the world.
