Garden Memories

Thanks to my mother, gardens bring up fond memories. She always had some sort of flower or veggie growing in our backyard in Orlando. Mom always asserted she didn’t have a green thumb but for me that didn’t matter. It was about the quality time spent with her. The humid Florida weather never stopped us from getting out to the backyard to transplant some new flowers and sink our hands into the dirt. I still remember those floral sun visors she would wear. They seemed both completely out of fashion yet incredibly mature.

The other month I had the opportunity to take some commercial portraits at the local university farm here in Ethiopia. It was a good time and everyone enjoyed the process. I went back a few weeks later to give them prints and pay them for their time. Getting to see their reactions to the pictures was the icing on the cake.
