The Hustle in Ethiopia | Pt. II

I grew up loving editorial portrait photography. As a teenager I would go to the local bookstore and scour the magazines for cool images. Visually illustrating concepts is so fun for me. This series was started when I began thinking of how to illustrate the unemployment in Ethiopia. How do you do this with dignity and respect, without falling into typical cliches?

All around our small town we have people canvasing the streets, selling light bulbs to washcloths, lottery tickets to sunglasses. It’s not uncommon to hear a man shout out that he’s selling brooms as he walks down the street. It’s hard work but a testament to the endurance of man. All may not be right with the world but seeing people push on gives me hope.
